What a 90-Minute Session Includes

15 Minutes – Motivation & Mindset

Students begin each session with a short SEL-based reading tied to powerful historical thinkers such as Socrates, Aristotle, Confucius, and John Locke.
We reflect on discipline, courage, resilience, and personal responsibility — building both literacy and character.

40 Minutes – Academic Focus Block

Students work on:
• In-school assignments
• Independent reading
• Targeted skill practice
• Test-taking strategy
• NC EOG-style passages
• Enrichment or mentorship

This block builds independence, focus, and accountability.

35 Minutes – Historical Literacy Lesson

Students engage in structured lessons that connect key historical events and philosophical movements to reading comprehension strategies used on the NC ELA EOG.

Students learn to:
• Understand historical context
• Analyze informational and argumentative texts
• Identify author’s purpose and perspective
• Strengthen vocabulary through real-world content
• Apply critical thinking under timed conditions

Why This Works

Strong readers understand context.

When students recognize the ideas behind democracy, revolution, justice, and leadership, they comprehend complex passages with greater confidence and accuracy.

This is not homework help.
This is structured literacy development.
